Ultracet comes as a tablet.
Ultracet is a non-narcotic pain reliever. Ultracet has minimal side effects as compared to prescribed for mind to moderate pain, morphine.
Ultracet can be taken with or without food.
Ultracet (tramadol hydrochloride is a synthetic compound that works in the central nervous system (CNS) to relieve pain. The exact way in which this drug works is unknown, but it bound to opioids receptors and reducer the uptake of two important neurohormones, serotonin an epinephrine into nerves, pain relief begins about half after you take a dose and reaches its maximum effect in 2 to 3 hours.
Ultracet has no effect on heart function. Ultracet has an effect when used with Carbamazepine so if a patient is taking this combination the person may need twice the usual dosage of tramadol.
The combination of Ultracet (tramadol) and monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOI) antidepressant and SSRIs may cause a sever reaction and should be used with caution.
Ultracet and guanidine used together may slow down Ultracet (tramadol).The full impact of this interaction is still not known.
Ultracet (tramadol) may increase the effect of war fain and digoxin.
Dosage for Ultracet
Adult take 25-100 mgs every 4 to 6 hours. Do not exceed 400mg a day.
People with cirrhosis should receive 50 mgs every 12 hours.
People with severe obesity should not receive more than 100 mg every 12 hours.
Seniors do not exceed 300 mg of Ultracet a day.
Ultracet is not recommended for a child under the age of 16 years.
If a person forgets to take a dose, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for the next dose skip the one you forget, and continue with the regular schedule. Do not take a double dose.
Ultracet (tramadol) can lead to physical and psychological addiction hence the dosage should be carefully monitored by a physician.
Side Effects of Ultracet
Ultracet can cause low blood pressure whilst standing. Ultracet (tramadol) can cause dizziness, tiredness, nausea, constipation swelling and itching like narcotic pain relievers. Ultracet unlike narcotics, normal doses cause little interference with breathing and do not cause histamine reactions.
Seizure may occur if a person has taken oral doses of Ultracet of 700 mg or intravenous doses of 300 mg. people who are dependent on narcotics and take tramadol may experience withdrawal symptoms. Ultracet can cause weakness and an upset stomach.
Ultracet can cause dry mouth and diarrhea. Ultracet can cause a feeling of being unwell, warmth and flushing or a very feverish feeling. Ultracet can cause nervousness, anxiety and agitation, euphoria (feeling hangs) emotional instability, troubled sleep. Ultracet can cause abdominal pain, loss of appetite and gas.
Ultracet can cause a rash. Ultracet can cause visual disturbances and skylines of menopause.
Ultracet rarely affects your senses, mental state, heart, stomach, intestines, liver, blood, urinary tract, headaches, fainting and allergies also occur. Consult a physician if you experience any of these side effects.
Precaution Whilst Taking Ultracet
Ultracet should not be taken by patients if they have an allergy to it.
Ultracet should not be taken in you are under the influence of alcohol, or narcotic drugs.
If a patient is already taking tranquilizers, sedatives, or other nervous system depressants should take a reduced dose of Ultracet.
Ultracet in large doses could cause difficulty in breathing, especially when combined with alcohol.
Ultracet (tramadol) use should be avoided in people who have had abdominal conditions or a head injury because the drug may interfere with diagnosing the injury or understanding its severity.
Precaution to avoid chivying is a must if you have taken Ultracet as your concentration could be affected and an accident could prove fatal. Precaution with any other activity requiring concretization is advised whilst taking Ultracet as drowsiness could occur. Precaution not to use Ultracet with hypnotic opioids and psychotropic drug as they may interact adversely. If a patient is preparing to undergo surgery or dental procedure the health care practitioner should be informed if you are taking Ultracet (tramadol).
If a woman is pregnant she should be aware that Ultracet (tramadol) is toxic to animal fetuses and passes into the fetal circulation in humans.
When Ultracet is considered crucial by your doctor its potential benefits must be carefully weighed against its risks.
This drug passes into breast milk. Nursing mothers who take Ultracet should consider bottle feeding their infant.
When a patient first starts taking this drug, he or she may feel light headed and experience dizziness or fainting when they rise quickly from a setting or reclining position (postural hypotension). Try to get up slowly and the problem continues.
Ultracet (Tramadol) should not be taken if you are allergic to this similar drug, such as codeine or morphine. It should be used with caution if you have a history of constipation. The doctor should know if you are taking herbs or other supplements like vitamins whilst you are going to take Ultracet.
Precaution must be taken when taking Ultracet with other central nervous system depressants as it can result in increased sedation.
Carbamazepine may reduce the effect of Ultracet.
Do not combine Ultracet with digoxin as it may cause digoxin toxicity.
Do not combine use of Ultracet with a drug such as phenothiazines as it increases blood levels.
Do not take Ultracet with herbs such as hope, kava, passionflower and valerian. They can increase its sedative effect. Do not use ginseng or St. John's Wort.
SYMPTOMS OF OVERDOSE OF ULTRACET
The symptoms of Ultracet (Tramadol) overdose may include breathing problems and seizures. If an overdose occurs seek immediate medical attention and take the prescription bottle to the hospital with you.
