General Information about Zoloft
This is how Zoloft works. SSRIs are chemically unrelated to other antidepressant drugs. Zoloft prevents the movements of the neurotransmitter serotonin into the nerve endings. Thus the serotonin remains in the spaces surrounding nerve endings increasing its action. Abnormal serotonin function may be involved in depression and the SSRIs are effective in treating any common symptoms of depression. Zoloft can help improve mental alertness and increase physical activity. Zoloft also improves sleep patterns. Zoloft's (SSRIs) effectiveness varies from one individual to another, as well as how it would be eliminated from the body.

SSRIs should not be taken together with monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) antidepressants because they react with each other and consequently some potentially fatal reaction may occur.
Side Effects of Zoloft

Zoloft Drug Interaction
If a patient is going to start taking an MAOI antidepressant he should let at least 3 weeks elapse between stopping Fluoxetine.
A gap of two weeks should elapse between stopping other SSRIs and starting an MAOI.
Again a gap of two weeks should elapse if one wants to stop MAOI and start an SSRI.
Taking these two dosages close together could cause serious, life threatening reactions.
Patients should try not to use SSRI and NSAIDs together as it could substantially increase the risk of gastrointestinal side effects.
Zoloft (SSRIs) may increase tricyclic antidepressant blood levels.

Any person suspected of having taken an overdose of Zoloft (SSRIs) should be taken to a hospital emergency room at once. Carry the prescription bottle or container to the emergency room.
